IRREVOCABLE LOVE: A Love That Serves In The Waiting (Rachel and Jacob Love Story)

Date Originally Written: February 10, 2022
“Love is patient…” – 1 Corinthians 13:4a, CEV
This verse kept reverberating in my mind and inspired me to ponder its significant depth. It has led me to reflect on some heartfelt questions.
How long can we wait for love?
How long can we endure for love?
How much patience can we offer someone who has hurt us?
Are we prepared to go to great lengths to win the heart of someone we cherish?
Are we willing to serve selflessly for years for the one we love?
Waiting is undeniably challenging. It tests our patience and can be wearisome and painful. We are innately impatient, desiring immediate gratification and quick results.
Yet, there is undeniable beauty in the waiting…
Waiting is not just about how long we wait, but about how we conduct ourselves during that time. It’s about surrendering completely to God and trusting Him to guide us through the process. It’s about allowing Him to shape our hearts and our journey.
In our waiting, we hope…
In our waiting, we love…
In our waiting, we pray…
In our waiting, we serve…
Jacob’s story exemplifies this kind of enduring love.
He loved deeply…
He hoped firmly…
He served faithfully…
He waited with patience…
He won…
And in doing so, God blessed him abundantly.
Rachel and Jacob have a renowned love story in the bible. It was complicated but it was beautiful. It teaches us about a love that perseveres through waiting. Jacob, son of Isaac and Rebekah, and younger twin brother of Esau, fell deeply in love with Rachel, the beloved daughter of Laban.
The drama began when Jacob, having deceived his father to receive Esau’s birthright and blessing (an act permitted by divine plan), fled from Esau’s wrath with his mother Rebekah’s aid. Isaac then blessed Jacob and instructed him to find a wife from his mother’s family, thus beginning Jacob’s journey to Padanaram and Haran.
On his way, Jacob had a divine encounter at Bethel, where he dreamt of a ladder reaching to heaven, with angels ascending and descending. God spoke to him, affirming His promises that Jacob would inherit the land, his descendants would be countless, and all people would be blessed through him. God assured Jacob of His presence and protection.
As Jacob continued his journey, he arrived at a well where he encountered Rachel tending her father’s sheep. His love for her was immediate and profound. Jacob agreed to work for Laban for seven years in exchange for Rachel’s hand in marriage. Those seven years felt like mere days to Jacob because of his deep love for Rachel. He worked diligently, without complaint, eager to prove his devotion.
However, Laban, abiding by local customs, deceives Jacob by giving him Leah instead of Rachel on the wedding night. Jacob’s heart was shattered. The deceiver had been deceived. But Laban offered a solution, Jacob could marry Rachel after completing Leah’s bridal week and serving another seven years. Jacob agreed, and eventually, Rachel became his wife.
Jacob’s story is not a conventional love tale. It was marked by trials, rivalries, and emotional struggles, especially as he had children with both Rachel and Leah and their maidservants. Despite Rachel being Jacob’s beloved, their relationship was not without its hardships, including Rachel’s struggle with infertility.
Studying their story, I was deeply moved. It revealed the amazing truth that God’s plans are often beyond our understanding, yet they unfold with purpose and beauty. The struggles Jacob and Rachel faced were part of a greater divine plan to fulfill God’s promises and bring forth the twelve tribes of Israel, as well as to establish Abraham as the “Father of All Nations.”
God’s orchestration of their story reminds us of His perfect timing and His ability to make all things beautiful in their time.
If you are waiting for something or someone, take heart! God is the God of time and order. When you trust Him with your whole heart and embrace His timing, your waiting will not be in vain. I have never seen anyone who trusted God regret their faithfulness.
There is waiting in love…
There is praying in love…
There is serving in love…
Continue to wait…
Continue to pray…
Continue to serve with purpose…
One day, your “At Last!” moment will come. Remember, God is capable and faithful. He has made everything beautiful in its time.

IRREVOCABLE LOVE: Loving In The Midst Of Pain – The Redemption Story (Boaz and Ruth)

Date Originally Written: February 9, 2022
How do we find the strength to love when our hearts are heavy with grief and pain?
How can we open our hearts to love when we’ve lost someone dear, and we’re left feeling empty and low?
The journey through heartache and loss can seem overwhelming, but even in our deepest valleys, love can still flourish.
Long before the timeless tales of Romeo and Juliet, Jack and Rose, or Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, there was a love story that unfolded thousands of years ago. It’s a story of Ruth and Boaz, two remarkable figures in the Bible whose love story is more than just a tale of romance. It’s a powerful narrative of redemption, selflessness, and loyalty amidst loss and pain.
Ruth, a Moabitess, came from a people who had turned away from God. Despite the history of her people, Ruth’s heart shone brightly with virtue and grace. She married Mahlon, the son of Elimelech, but was soon left a widow.
As grief enveloped her, Ruth’s sister-in-law, Orpah chose to return to her people, but Ruth made a different choice. She declared to her mother-in-law Naomi, “Please don’t tell me to leave you and return home! I will go where you go, I will live where you live; your people will be my people, your God will be my God. I will die where you die and be buried beside you. May the Lord punish me if we are ever separated, even by death!” –Ruth 1:16-17, CEV
Ruth’s loyalty and selflessness were truly extraordinary. She chose to stay with Naomi, even though she faced a future filled with uncertainty. Together, they moved to Bethlehem, and as the barley harvest began, Ruth worked tirelessly in the fields to provide for them both. Despite her personal suffering, she remained diligent and focused, finding comfort in her work and in her commitment to Naomi.
Little did Ruth know that her life was about to change. The field she worked in belonged to Boaz, a wealthy and noble man who was also a relative of Naomi’s late husband. Boaz took notice of Ruth’s hard work and dedication. He saw beyond her appearance to the character that made her shine. He ensured her safety and extended kindness by inviting her to eat with him and his workers.
Boaz’s admiration for Ruth grew, and in time, their bond deepened into love. This love story is not merely about romantic connection, it’s a great reflection of God’s love for us. Boaz’s grace towards Ruth mirrored the grace God extends to us through Christ Jesus. Just as Boaz accepted and cherished Ruth despite her past and circumstances, God embraces us with open arms, redeeming us from our pain and sin.
Ruth’s story teaches us that even in our darkest moments, when we feel the weight of our losses, God is at work. He sees our efforts, our pain, and our faithfulness. Like Ruth, we might be in a place of sorrow and loss, but God is orchestrating something beautiful behind the scenes. He has a plan for each of us, a plan that includes healing, restoration, and a future filled with hope.
To those who are struggling with heartache and loss, know that you are not alone. God is with you, even when it feels like He’s distant. He sees your efforts, understands your pain, and holds you close. You are cherished and valued, and through Christ, you are redeemed and loved beyond measure.
For singles and anyone longing for love, remember Ruth’s story as a story of hope. She did not dwell on what she lacked but focused on fulfilling her purpose with faith and perseverance. In God’s perfect timing, Boaz came into her life, and their love story became a testament to God’s grace and favor.
As you continue on your journey, trust that God is working in your life, orchestrating beautiful things even in the midst of your pain. Keep pursuing your purpose, remain faithful, and trust in His timing.
In due season, you may find that your own love story unfolds in ways you never imagined, reflecting the beauty of God’s love and grace.
